When I bought the new iPhone I FULLY expected to be able to plug it into my existing iPhone cradle and have it magically work. Silly Clay…that would be too easy. I detailed out my original iPhone car integration here.
The new iPhone is about an 1/8 of an inch wider that the first one which means the cradle from ProClip is useless. I was able to get in touch with someone at ProClip who told me they would have a new cradle, but not for a couple of months. If you know me, you know that I don’t have that kind of patience. Enter the Dremel tool! I was able to carve out some plastic and spead it out with some plastic spacers. Worked excellent, but I will still buy the right one when it comes out. This works for now. Ok, let’s get this striaght…I love my new iPhone (16gb White One), but like any product, it has its downfalls. I wanted to experience the launch day frenzy so I planned to head to the Apple store at the Mall of America for the 8am store opening on July 11. I got there about 6:30am and got in line with about 60 people in front of me. I was quickly bored after checking out my line-mates. Read more…
I found out this week from some folks at work that the nearly 600 foot tall smoke stack near my office was going to be demolished this morning. Great photo/video opportunity for myself and Jake! We woke up earlier than normal and trekked over to St. Paul. There were tons of people there. We were fortunate enough to get a spot on Cliff Road directly across from the old coal burning plant.
At 7:30 with no siren warning that anyone around me heard, a small explosion occurred at the base. The plan was for the tower to topple on a series of dirt mounds that would cushion the fall and break the material up more easily. The missed their target "by that much", but the worst of it was some debris that shot across Shepard Road (which was closed).
I shot a little over 110 images during the fall sequence (thank you Canon 40D!). You can enjoy the photos up on my Flickr account or click on the YouTube video below. The better quality video is in the video section.
My sister-in-law was using my iPhone this past weekend and was having trouble typing the letter "T" on its little virtual keyboard. After I tried it out, I figured that yes, this is not working. PANIC! I headed off to the Genius Bar at the Mall of America Apple store today at lunch. Apparently one of the more common problems they have had with the phones are that a strip of the touch sensitive material goes bad and you get a dead spot.
They gave me a new phone (which I'm sure is just a refurbished unit) and everyone is happy. Great service!
I will be MUCG happier on July 11th when I will have the new model! Yes...you can call me a fan boy now.

Sorry for not posting more. That is what good temps in Minnesota does...gets you away from the computer.
This weekend in Chicago concludes this crazy month travelling. We started off by going to Vegas for my brother's wedding. He lives in Phoenix and married a great woman in a really hot ceremony. I did everything in my power to not sweat through my dress shirt. It wasn't even that hot in Vegas standards, but I am now a wimp that lives in Minnesota and not Phoenix...so let's leave it at that.
